"You can’t go home, it doesn’t exist anymore"- Jay Electronica
The Vtech and Mochilla crew have made a name for themselves- digging through vintage classics, sifting through rare and often displaced gems, presenting artists to music aficinados and thus, building a strong music collective. In 2006, because of their loyal contribution to the arts and humanity, photographer Brian "B+" Cross and Eric Coleman of Mochilla were invited to New Orleans to document the devastating ravages of Hurricane Katrina, as well as premiere their beautifully crafted film
Braziliantime.
Some years later, they were invited once again, but this time to the Voodoo Festival to join New Orleans' own hip hop virtuoso Jay Electronica. Although time had passed since the disaster occurred, this film points to a deep and lingering issue. A community of people, particularly those of the Magnolia Projects in Third Ward, were objected to poverty and destruction after the hurricane hit. Theirs home were left no more. And their culture, one that is rich and colorful, and simultaneously rooted in New Orleans' soil, was abandoned/neglected. And so, Jay brings his brothers and sisters
home with "Exhibit A." By sharing
his New Orleans' spirit, he uses insightful words and lyricism to offer hope, consolation and revitalization to his people-
our people.
