Jason Shiga, the Oakland cartoonist, has done it again. His most recent book, Meanwhile is one of a kind. It allows the reader to determine the direction of the plot and gives the reader the freedom to choose your own adventure. Get this, the reader has the option of choosing whether the main character should have vanilla or chocolate ice cream. That’s right, you get to decide the flavor of ice cream the main character gets to enjoy; now that’s a lot of power Shiga is giving us. Shiga’s clever and amusing stories incorporates the “choose your own adventure” mechanic which merges well with the story’s time travel element. Meanwhile, originally self published in 2001, will be coming out as a full color book by Amulet Publishing in Spring 2010.
