Psycho Marathon

“PSYCHO” TRIPLE FEATURE: Psycho + Psycho 2 + Psycho 3
Los Angeles, CA
05/09/10

Cinefamily eagerly presents this all-night tribute to film’s greatest motherlover. It goes without saying that Hitchcock’s original 1960 film is a venerable classic and groundbreaking piece of work, but what hardly anyone thinks about is the surprisingly entertaining franchise it spawned, and tonight we’re turning that around! Psycho II, directed by Richard Franklin (a Hitchcock protegee, and helmer of Patrick and Road Games) is a strong thriller in its own right that stands head and shoulders above the slasher fare of the time; it’s a smart, classy affair that carries on the Norman Bates saga with new and interesting twists, led by a great return performance by Anthony Perkins and a steamy one by sexy newcomer Meg Tilly. Perkins clearly had an affinity for Norman, evidenced by when he starred in and directed Psycho III. While not quite as elegant as its predecessors, the third entry is nevertheless a taught, enjoyable potboiler with a great scummy turn by Jeff Fahey, as well as strong work once again from Perkins himself. NOTE: free admission will be granted to any male patron who comes dressed in costume as his own mother. Full commitement, guys — head-to-toe, or no no free ticket! We will judge your effort as critically as your own mother would. Be there early, the show starts at 7:30pm
