The Hammer Museum is proud to present a new sculptural work by Greg Lynn, a Los Angeles-based architect. Catering to visitors of all ages and in perfect timing for the warm summer months, Fountain will be located in the museum’s outdoor courtyard. Lynn’s masterpiece is a functioning fountain made out of large plastic children’s toys. Yes, they can come in handy after you’ve grown tired of them. The found toys have been cut and reassembled in multiple layers, and even has water sprouting from the top and pooling at its base. The Fountain is constructed from more than seventy-five prefabricated whale and shark teeter-totters put together by white automotive paint.
Greg Lynn’s Fountain is only the first in a new series of projects which will be focused on architecture and design. This annual project will be placed in different locations around the museum so be prepared for something new. The three year project is organized by Sylvia Lavin, Director of Critical Studies and MA/PhD Programs UCLArchitecture.
