Vashtie Kola

How do I describe Vashtie Kola in five words? Classy, artistic, and down for the set. Okay, that’s more than five words but she’s one hot mama. She has worked as the Director of Creative Services at Def Jam and has a passion for the retro 80s and 90s. She has worked with big name artists such as Jadakiss, Solange, Kid Cudi, Faith Evans, and US Placers and hopes to one day work with Bjork and Kings of Leon. A Nike-lover and creative-minded girl with big dreams, Vahtie Kola is just getting started and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Watch out now, she’s one tough cookie.

The Oath

Los Angeles, CA
05/18/10

*”What’s Up Docs” is Cinefamily and Cinema Eye Honors’ ongoing showcase of non-fiction features that are both innovative and firmly dedicated to artistic craft – not just those that are “good for you” or feature “an important cause,” but ones that create a lasting resonance and kick ass. A 90 minute spectacularly gripping documentary that unspools like a great political thriller, The Oath, from Oscar-nominated director Laura Poitras (My Country, My Country), is the cross-cut tale of two men whose fateful meeting propelled them on divergent courses with Al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, 9/11, Guantanamo Bay Prison and the U.S. Supreme Court. Design Crimes: The De-Evolution of the Human Spirit

Design in the Blood
Design Opinion

On April 19th the geek-central tech-blog Gizmodo posted earth-shattering news regarding the next iPhone. Now nearing 10 million hits the post included video and photos of what is apparently the forthcoming 4G model of Apple’s wildly successful smartphone. Unfortunately for Apple however, this is several months before Steve Jobs’ planned smoke-and-mirrors unveiling that gets everyone so damned excited. In the design world  anytime Apple so much as sneezes it triggers speculation about what it could mean. In fact rumors about their next ‘it’ products abound no matter what, so an un-planned leak was like an early Christmas for many. Except me.

The Dark Side of Hall and Oates

Koot Hoomi
Velvet Fallopian Tube/Luria Music
(2010)

I’ve never been much of a Hall & Oates fan. I missed them by a generation. By the time I was born they were about to release their twelfth album. I’m not going to be someone who proclaims a strong affinity for the 80′s when I was still enjoying graham crackers and milk in-between finger-painting and nap time as the decade was coming to a close. Still, I see and hear the effects of Hall & Oates more than I probably realize. Moving 40 million albums will do that.
