Walking along the ill-maintained sidewalks of Echo Park Ave., I noticed the scene seemed busier than usual. Approaching Sunset, I saw a mob of people filling the door area of the Gold Room, smoking and talking in alcohol-induced, raucous voices and paying little attention to the fleet of cops working a DUI checkpoint across the street. An odd sight for a Wednesday night so close to the beginning of the month. Racking my brain I quickly remembered it was Cinco de Mayo. →
