We currently live in political stasis. Cultural change is a turgid philosophy moving at snail’s pace; when it seems that even Obama’s coin phrase of change doesn’t strike the same emotional chord it did when we elevated him as the messiah who would rescue us from our political complacency. Yet the status quo dictates the mass and greedy corporate giants continue to follow an unrealistic and painfully slow reform. So we plug away at our Twitter and Facebook accounts and hope for some social redemption →
Glass Ghost premieres another video in their never-ending quest for lo-fi perfection. Grainy and at times blurry close-ups, strange and disjunctive, yet familiar like a family home video of a local petting zoo/carnival. A charming homespun accompaniment to their lovely number, “The Same” off their latest offering Idol Omen. Available now on Western Vinyl.
Who else is ready for summer? I know I am and you know what that means? Late night bonfires, laying out on the beach and best of all, family barbeques and a sexy new wardrobe for the sunny summer season. Well if you’re like me and looking for that perfect outfit, you’re in luck because the much anticipated Hellz Summer 2010 is here. That’s right, the Hellz’ newest delivery, ‘To Dye For’ is finally here. There’s none other out there that hits the spot for dope style the way Hellz Bellz does. The collection is composed of daring silhouettes as summer staples, combined with marble dye and fringe details. Make sure you check out their site to see more, and grab ‘em while you can, they’ll be gone quick.
What is the first thing you think about when you hear the word bird’s nest? For most people, I’d expect the answer to be spring time, bird babies, or maybe those bird nest chocolate candies? Well, whatever you answered, J.frede takes a different approach. He is amused by the materials and textures of bird’s nests. Approaching the work from the perspective that a nest is an architectural form, J.frede focuses on the complexity and chaotic construction of the bird’s nest. For birds, anything seems to go. Anything from straw →
If you ask me, my definition of an artist is defined as someone who is able to make art out of pretty much anything and everything you hand them. Someone who can create with their imagination a million things with objects that others may only see as well, objects. With that being said, let me tell you, Haroshi is a true artist. Testing the boundaries of what we know about the use of practical objects such as a skateboard, Haroshi creates beautiful sculptures out of yep, you guessed it, old skateboards. Talk about →
After the top-kill attempt to stop the oil leak, BP will use robotic submarines to cut off the pipeline and attach a new containment valve, called the “lower marine riser package.” The hope is that the device, much smaller than the ineffective white metal structure installed over one leak earlier in the month, will catch the escaping oil without clogging with the methane slush that thwarted that earlier attempt. Again, such a delicate deep-sea attempt has never been made before, and there are no guarantees it will work. As the oil company keeps throwing new solutions at the spill, the oil could keep spreading across the Gulf coastline into August, destroying →

Without a doubt things are changing. This may seem like a redundant statement since history and our own individual lives are shaped by change, but we are now at an undeniable crossroads. Politically, economically, environmentally, socially, and even spiritually there’s little now that is the way it used to be. This is an increasingly overwhelming feeling – a sense that things aren’t entirely right and an inability to know what to do about it.
Nowadays, everybody and anybody gets most of their business and pleasure done in cyberspace, and artists are no expection.
