Active avant garde-ists, the Dutch duo Viktor & Rolf have gave fashion lovers and designer something to drool over the early 90s. In 2008, the designers created a three-story dollhouse with 55 miniature porcelain dolls (each doll standing at about 2 feet tall) for a solo exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery in London, all wearing design work of the past 15 years. I recently had the opportunity to curate a show back in my land of origin. Entitled Industrial Desire, it involved taking 9 highly-detailed scale concept car models from the permanent collection at Detroit’s College for Creative Studies to Artisan Galleries in Brisbane. The premise was simple; to put the models and the automobile itself within the context of art and craft, a place that it has become more and more distant from as time goes by. →
Art for a cause. That’s the guiding mantra behind Sea No Evil, a stellar group exhibition geared towards protection of our ocean and its marine wildlife. All the more pressing, given the catastrophic scenario created by BP and their bumbling attempts of putting a cap on environmental concerns.
