Reiko (Hideko Takamine), a war-widow, keeps her late husband’s family store afloat against supermarket competition and the meddling of her in-laws. Fed up with the pressure, she embarks on a journey home, accompanied by a younger brother-in-law (Yuzo Kayama). The journey, with hints of forbidden romance, ends with a shocking finale.

Project Angel Food

The works of artists including Ed Ruscha and Chris Burden will be auctioned off to benefit the L.A.-based non-profit organization Project Angel Food. Join the Creative Artists Agency on Nov. 18 for a chance to purchase contemporary works for a charitable cause. In 1989, Project Angel Food was conceived by a group of caring friends driven to action after witnessing their loved ones’ health deteriorate as a result of disease and the malnutrition that accompanies it.

Jamie, My Intentions are Bass

Another visual gem from Northern Californian band, !!! (pronounced by most as, Chk Chk Chk) for their single, “Jamie, My Intentions Are Bass.”  As tongue-in-cheek as the title of their song, the errant band roams through random houses, gardens and swimming pools.  Director, Saman Keshavarz, throws in synchronized dance moves, floral arrangements and lo-fi teleportation devices to create an off-the-wall accompaniment to !!!’s bumping new track of their remix EP.

Rave-rap sensation

Bringing a gritty sensibility from the underground scene in South Africa, Die Antwoord, are blowing up into a global sensation. The self-professed futuristic rave-rap performers, “zef” the rap master NINJA, pallid nymphet, ¥O-LANDI VI$$ER and the beat monster, DJ HI-TEK have taken it another step further.  This time their latest music video sporting their brazen, tongue-in-cheek antics also features slick, globe-trotting DJ, Diplo and seemingly pre-pubescent emcee, Evil Boy.  These guys are so dirty and fresh, it’s hard to take your eyes off them (much like rubbernecking a gruesome roadkill!)
