Original art, prints and books by Shaun Tan and Emma Magenta will be exhibited and available for purchase at the bookstore, Every Picture Tells a Story.
A special video preview of a new animated series by Emma Magenta will be screened at the event. The art of Australian illustrator Graeme Base will be featured, as well. The opening reception will also showcase Australian wines & food and is a satellite event for “G’day USA- Australia Week 2011.”
Melbourne based Shaun Tan’s books & stories include The Rabbits, The Red Tree, The Lost Thing, Tales from Outer Suburbia. His acclaimed wordless novel, The Arrival, was selected as one of the 2007 New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Books. Check out our managing editor’s review of The Arrival HERE.
Emma Magenta is a Sydney artist whose books include The Perils of Magnificent Love, A Gorgeous Sense of Hope, The Origins of Lament and her most recent picture book, Orlando on a Thursday. She has twice collaborated
with Australian actor, Toni Collette — on the children’s book, Planet Yawn and on an animated series for the ABC in Australia called The Gradual Demise of Phillipa Finch.
“Tan & Magenta” will be on view January 16, 2011 – February 13, 2011. The opening reception, free & open to the public, will be held from 2-6 PM on Sunday January 16, 2011.
