Bilal’s “Levels”

This self-indulgent, visual feast was directed by none other than critically acclaimed Flying Lotus (aka: Steve Ellison).  It appears with that Flylo’s got more than sick beats up his sleeves.  Bilal’s “Levels,”  marks his directorial debut courtesy of Plug Research (where he also happened to drop his debut album, 1983. The visually stunning video was inspired by the Bilal’s new music and features prominent cameos by Erykah Badu  and Shafiq Husayn  (who also produced the track).

I’ll Be Your Mirror

All Tomorrow’s Parties returns to the USA this September in the new location of Asbury Park, N.J. bringing an I’ll Be Your Mirror event to the iconic Asbury Park waterfront. For the inaugural American festival, Portishead will curate and headline their first East Coast shows since 1998 on the Saturday and Sunday!

I’ll Be Your Mirror (named after the b-side to The Velvet Underground’s original ATP 7″ single, released in 1966) is a new series of artist-curated music, film and art events. As a sister project to the epic ATP Festivals we know so well

The Hammer Museum proudly presents Now Dig This! Art and Black Los Angeles 1960–1980, a comprehensive exhibition that examines the incredibly vital but oft overlooked legacy accorded to LA’s African American visual artists. Now Dig This! comprises 140 works from 35 artists that have rarely been shown in a museum setting and includes early pieces by now well-established artists as well as works once considered “lost.”

Love Exposure

First U.S. Theatrical Run of Sono’s Epic Film

You know it’s gonna be good when the Cinefamily blocks off an entire one-week run for a single film (only the second time since their inception as a delightfully indie arthouse theatre.)  Starting next week, the fine folks at the Cinefamily presents the first U.S. theatrical run of Love Exposure (Sion Sono,) touted as the most amazing unreleased film of the last decade!
