Glenn Kaino Participates at Art Basel Miami Beach
Art Public & Art Salon – Miami Beach, FL
12/1 thru 12/4/11
Honor Fraser Gallery proudly presents Los Angeles-based artist Glenn Kaino as he gathers hundreds of volunteers to stage an unprecedented durational performance, Levitating The Fair, that takes place throughout the duration of Art Basel Miami Beach (at the Art Public Exhibit.) Proposed to rekindle our belief in the value of art and artists, Kaino’s collective action project asks volunteers to help lift a 20 x 20 foot sculptural platform invoking the iconic attractions of the 1939 New York World’s Fair. An endurance performance and visualization of collective labor, Kaino’s project tests our physical investment and personal commitment to the realization of creative moments. Levitating The Fair will be on view December 1 – 4 at the Bass Museum of Art in Collins Park, Miami Beach. Opening night is Wednesday, November 30, 8 – 10pm.
For Art Salon, Glenn Kaino appears in conversation with Chicago-based artist Theaster Gates and LACMA curator Christine Y. Kim. The Art Salon program serves as an open space for short presentations, panel discussions, book signings and lectures, with a range of speakers including artists, curators, academics, authors, art lawyers, critics, and architects. A video of the conversation will be available at artbasel.com/salon. Kaino, Theaster, and Kim will begin their discussion on Friday, December 2, 1pm in the auditorium of the Miami Beach Convention Center.
Glenn Kaino received his BFA from the University of California, Irvine, in 1993 and his MFA from the University of California, San Diego, in 1996.
