As part of Yellow Bird Project’s continuing efforts to emblazon the banner of indie-rock for charitable causes, they proudly present a new t-shirt commemorating Jay Reatard’s career. The prolific underground musician, born Jimmy Lee Lindsay Jr., left grade school to become a one man punk-rock phenomenon. His evolution as a songwriter and musician, and prolific repertoire resulted in a massive underground following. After signing on to Matador Records and releasing his final album, Watch Me Fall, Lindsey passed away in early 2010, aged 29, in his sleep.
The Yellow Bird Project shirt is a commemoration of Jay Reatard’s brief lifetime of musical accomplishments and his indelible mark on the underground punk rock scene. Drawn in detail using a black pen on A2 paper, this design depicts a Gibson Flying V; one of Jay’s trademark guitars. The brand name has been taken off the headstock and replaced with the initials ‘JR’. The Flying V is a powerful symbol used to embody Jay, his life, and his music.
