Whether it’s for their laid-back policies, their enviable health care, their Celine Dion, or just the fact that they’re not Americans, Canada has always fallen into the standard repertoire for jokes. But if there’s one thing we should actually commend our northern brethren for, it’s their booming indie music scene. Canada is the birthplace of numerous indie bands including Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, The Unicorns, Wolf Parade and The New Pornographers, just to name a few. →
Medicine for Melancholy has already garnered much praise from critics and has swept awards from various festivals, it can also be heralded as perhaps one of the more sweeter and optimistic stories of a one-night stand ever told. →

Dengue Fever is an L.A. based band formed by brothers, Ethan and Zac Holtzman. The brothers were inspired by their trip to Cambodia which is very apparent in their 60′s Cambodian rock style. Their music has garnered lots of praise for their eclectic style that is unmatched by any other band currently on the scene. →

Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art is proud to present Grey Area, the first US solo exhibition of work by UK artist Boxi.
An opening reception will be held on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 from 7.00pm – 10.00pm, with the artist in attendance. Work in the show will include spray paint on canvas and MDF, sculpture, and limited edition prints, as well as a site-specific installation. →
Legendary Brazilian composer, Arthur Verocai conducts one of his pieces, “Seriado” at the Luckman Theater for V-TECH, MOCHILLA and ArtDontSleep’s third installment of their Timeless Series. The success of his debut album which was released in 1972 was stunted by government oppression and for the first time ever, his entire album was performed with a 36-piece orchestra with the powerful backing of Clarisse Grova on vocals.
