The name's Kenneth Van Doren and I love music. I play more instruments than fingers on my hand and major in audio recording and music at California State University in Dominguez Hills. I love traveling and listening to the music and ambient noise of the cities. I hope you'll find my articles to be witty, informative, and quintessentially GONZO.

A Testament to the Strength of the Human Gullet

Interview with the Meat Puppets (Chris Kirkwood)
***

“Basically, we found something that we liked to do, which was play music,” Chris Kirkwood began.  “Curt and I came from different angles.  I started playing after I saw the movie Deliverance. When I was twelve, I got a banjo. Curt had taken up guitar… we had gotten really into it in our teens. I started playing bass at some point and then we [got] together with Derek [Bostrom] and started a band.

“It felt right at the time. We thought about “what it is to be” and “what do you want to do with yourself” and those decisions you make definitely depends on who you are as a person.

The second unabashedly biased tale in this rambling, erratic, yet somehow ravishing saga… Welcome to the ride.

It is not possible for me to properly recount the tale of Four Tet with a non-partisan tenor, as I’ve held his music in high regard long before the opportunity to see him live at the Echoplex. The following interpretation is extremely subjective.

I Am The Enemy: Waking Up with Sleepy Sun

The Echo – Los Angeles, CA
Live Review: 3/10/09

Speeding through Los Avenues gang territory at top speed to pick up my photographer, it was absolutely imperative that I make it down to Sunset by a quarter to nine to get an interview with Sleepy Sun before their set at The Echo on Tuesday night. Arriving late at the door & overcome with a sense of impending doom, the bouncer guarding the main entrance provided me peace of mind after informing me that the band was still doing their sound check.
