Love Haiti

With thousands dead and missing, Haiti has been struck by a catastrophe which will test the world’s capacity for generosity and responsiveness. The 7.0+ earthquake has razed national landmarks and entire neighborhoods, caused the deaths of almost-unimaginable numbers of people and elicited both the goodness and evil in people.

Welcome to “The Local Boy”

Hi everyone, this is my personal introduction to my weekly column, the Local Boy.  I just wanted to give you guys a face you can connect to the name and to offer some background on myself and a small preview of what’s to come.  If you’ve been following me recently I just attended a pre-screening of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and gave my two cents on Tiger’s situation.  I wish all of you the most amazing holidays and you can look forward to my trip to Sundance

Amp Energy for Evil Monito

A couple of months ago I was asked by Bee Nguyen to participate in a video interview to promote the new AMP Energy drink. I was kinda hesitant but when he mentioned the fine roster of folks who were involved, I relented. I was really psyched on collaborating with Guy Logan who did an excellent job in filming. I was sick at the time

I Heart Evil Monito

This is an Evil Monito public service announcement co-directed and animated by our new intern, Dianne Kim and Sevan Gatsby.  The Parsons undergrad took a whimsical stop-mo approach to the EM mascot.  Music: “Ce Jeu” by Yelle and “Spring 2008″ by Architecture in Helsinki.  There’s more to come from our talented editorial team.  In the meantime, enjoy!

Welcome to Issue 24: Wanderlust

Issue no. 24 of Evil Monito magazine explores the philosophical question of what WANDERLUST means to us.  Much more than just a burning curiosity to experience remote locations in the world, the notion of travel  is allegorical to the personal exploration of our souls.  Together we will explore the dark world of Serbian photographer, Boogie; rediscover the musical gems of Vietnam through the beats of Parisian DJ, Onra;  find out how Cambodian-psych band, Dengue Fever, is changing  the face of “world music”; among other stories of seasoned travelers. Hope you enjoy!

Echo Park Folk

Editorial
***
Welcome to the neighborhood of Echo Park. A visual reference point for consciously clad hipsters, flanneled Cholos with a penchant for paint markers and at large, a time-honored melting pot of social and economic backgrounds. It is precisely this unique makeup of inhabitants that embodies Los Angeles’ ‘niche culture,’
