Q&A: Melissa Magsaysay

Occupation and Position.
Fashion Market Editor/Assistant Editor- Los Angeles Times

What neighborhood do you closely identify with? What makes it so unique to you?
Venice. I don’t live there, but wish I did. It’s got a great sense of culture and community. Great restaurants and shops, but relaxed. Not flashy. Feels far away from the stuff I do and deal with every day in West Hollywood.

What neighborhood do you closely identify with? What makes it so unique to you?
Northeast Koreatown, aka Historic Filipinotown, aka El Salvado Pequeno. It’s a fusion, it’s in flux, it’s freak-filled as well as family-friendly. It is also uniquely close to a metro

Q&A: Joel Knoernschild

Occupation and Position.
Creative Director // Founder of K.Z.O (Kazuo)

What neighborhood/city do you closely identify with? What makes your community so unique?
Mostly I identify with Los Angeles because it’s where I’m from and Tokyo, only because I’m there so often……I think that Los Angeles can be construed as “unique” just by the simple fact that so many people from around the world come to the city to live and work just because of the weather and lifestyle. With that, you meet so many different and interesting people.

What neighborhood do you closely identify with? What makes it so unique to you?
A HYBRID OF TRIBECA L.E.S. AND FORT GREENE WITH LOTS OF CENTRAL PARK. NOWADAYS I FEEL THAT NEIGHBOURHOODS IN MOST METROPOLITAIN CITIES DO NOT REALLY HAVE NEIGHBOURS OR A HOMOGENOUS IDENTITY. OR MAYBE IT’S JUST ME WHO CAN’T DECIDE…

Q&A: Rachel Allen

Occupation and Position.

Architect and Principal of Rachel Allen Architecture

What neighborhood do you closely identify with? What makes it so unique to you?

Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles. It’s genuinely diverse and in so many ways: race, class, age, gardening skills. It feels like a small town in the big city, a pocket of sincerity in a sea of urban cynicism. It reminds me of the San Francisco of the 1970s

What neighborhood do you closely identify with? What makes it so unique to you?
THE NEIGHBORHOOD I’VE BEEN LIVING IN FOR ALMOST THE PAST TEN YEARS, CARROLL GARDENS, BROOKLYN. I LOVE IT BECAUSE OF IT’S PROXIMITY TO THE CITY (FIFTEEN MINUTE SUBWAY RIDE TO LOWER MANHATTAN), ITS COMMUNITY/FAMILY-LIKE QUALITIES
