DUBLAB, El Cosmico & Marfa Public Radio presents Tonalism,
a dusk-to-dawn event inspired by La Monte Young’s “Dream House” as well as the work of musicians and composers such as Terry RileyYoko Ono and John Cage. Tonalism combines harmonious textures in a surround sound system with visual elements to create an atmosphere where the audience is encouraged to bring pillows, cushions and sleeping bags to lay down, listen and watch for an extended period of time. DJs, live musicians and video artists play and perform throughout the night; starting at sunset and ending at sunrise. Complimentary tea and water are provided to all who attend.

The Inside Out Project

Live from TED Global, the artist and 2011 TED Prize winner JR launched a web series as part of his TED Prize “wish to change the world.”

JR’s wish, the Inside Out Project, calls on men and women to stand up for what they care about by contributing to a large-scale participatory art project.  They do this by uploading a personal statement and portrait to a website (www.insideoutproject.net) and pasting them in the streets.

BRAIDS is a four-piece band from Montreal with one of the strongest debuts of 2011. Its full-length album Native Speaker clocks in at a little over 40 minutes, but the resulting effort is so expansive and dream-like, listening to it feels as if you’ve embarked on a day trip through the senses. There are albums which, when listened to as a whole, seem to take on a kind of biological life. The songs breathe and ripple as if an entire ecosystem is taking place

Their performance at the Hollywood Bowl on June 26th will be their first Los Angeles performance since 1979!
